The flagship HMS Ark Royal became waste metal

Metal scrapThe bygone navy admiral ship HMS Ark Royal was decided to be sold as waste metal at 3 million pounds, this measure is described by the Ministry of Defence like a difficult but a necessary step.

The Parliament is supposed to make an official announcement today, after this certain details of the Tyneside-constructed ship which was decommissioned 5 years prior to its charge off term (in 2010) will be revealed. That solution comes after the tender process that included various offers like to turn the vessel into a museum, a restaurant, a hotel, a casino or a helicopter pad.

The spokesman of MoD informed that after 30 years service HMS Ark Royal got decommissioned (in 2010), the correspondent announcement regarding its future is going to be made for Parliament on Monday. He also added that this solution was hard but necessary for addressing a huge Defence deficit and achieve balanced MoD�s funds

In 2017 the new much bigger airplane carriers Queen Elizabeth will start working. As for Ark Royal that 25 years ago was launched in Wallsend, for the time being it�s more treated like the symbol of the former mighty and the current woes of Royal Navy. By the way, this is the 5th ship carrying the name of the flagship that saw the famous Spanish Armada in the 16th century.

In 1993 the light aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, also known as Mighty Ark, took part in the action in the Adriatic during the war in Bosnia. After that, 10 years after, when Iraq invaded, Ark Royal was sent to Britain to lead the British fleet. Now, after the decision to scupper the ship was made, it is waiting for its fate in Portmouth haven.
