A hydrate of magnesium nitrate most stable under normal temperatures. Relative density: 1. 461; melting point: 95?aC (decomposes) . Converted completely into MgO when temperature exceeds 400?aC. Easily soluble in water, soluble in methanol or ethanol.

In agriculture, it is mainly used as a liquid fertilizer for economic crops such as vegetables and fruit trees and flowers. It offers the plants both magnesium and nitrite nitrogen that is easy to absorb.
