Event Description - AISC and ASCE/SEI Join Forces for Combined 2010 Conference

(Chicago, IL) - For the first time ever, the leading design and construct conferences are coming together this spring for a massive four-day event for more than 4,000 industry professionals. Orlando, Fla., is the place to be May 12-15, 2010, for the NASCC: The Steel Conference/The Structures Congress, hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE (SEI), at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center.

This spectacular conference features more than 200 educational seminars, 85 technical sessions, and nearly 200 trade show exhibits featuring products and services ranging from engineering software to the latest fabrication equipment. It*s a fabulous opportunity for structural engineers, architects, steel fabricators, educators, and others in the industry to learn the latest techniques, see the most innovative products, and network with peers and clients.

This year*s attendees will be seeing green, as the conference kicks off with a keynote address from Rick Fedrizzi, founding chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1993, appointed President and CEO in 2004. Under his leadership, the Council has established its role as an influential voice in the global sustainability movement. Fedrizzi will discuss why outreach and education, advocacy support for public policy initiatives, and a heightened emphasis on green buildings' role in social equity progress are part of his vision for the organization.

Other keynote sessions expected to attract large crowds include a 2010 TR Higgins Award Lecture by James O. Malley, P.E., S.E., on the evolution of the AISC Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 3410), as well as a presentation by ASCE President, Kathy J. Caldwell, P.E., during SEI*s Awards Luncheon. Caldwell will speak about the quality of critical life issues we face today; clean water, sustainable energy and infrastructure, and why and how engineers must take a leading role in their management going forward.

For a complete list of conference sessions, please visit www.aisc.org/nascc.

Attendees have the opportunity to hear about the latest advances in structural engineering in this year*s Structures Congress, featuring more than 400 papers in a variety of tracks, including: Bridges; Building Design; Extreme Loads and Educational Reform; Business and Professional Practice; Non-Building Structures; Research; Tall Buildings; and Education and Loading.

NASCC: The Steel Conference/The Structures Congress incorporates the Annual Stability Conference, the 19th Analysis & Computation Specialty Conference, the NISD Annual Meeting, and the CASE Spring Risk Management Convention.
